FAQ
What happens if I apply for a survivor pension without the legalized certificate?
You're missing the document that proves your status, and the payment gets delayed for months. Once legalized, the certificate opens the door to your pension, a new marriage or your procedure abroad.
Does it work for claiming a survivor pension?
Yes, it's usually one of the required documents.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $25, covers the legalization at the Registro Principal; official registry fees are separate, and the apostille is added if it's going abroad.
Do I need it apostilled?
Only if you'll use it outside Venezuela.
Can I remarry with it?
Yes, it proves that you're widowed.
About this procedure
A widowhood certificate proves your marital status after your spouse's death, and it's requested for survivor pensions, insurance, remarriage or immigration procedures. To be valid beyond the office that issued it, it must be legalized by the Registro Principal. We review it, handle the legalization at the Registro Principal or through the digital system of SAREN (Venezuela's registries and notaries service), and hand it to you ready to use. If you're going to use it in another country, we also process the apostille (Hague Convention certification for use abroad). Since it usually goes along with pension or estate procedures, we tell you which other documents you'll be asked for, so you don't make extra trips.
Legal framework and important notes
Ley de Registros y Notarías (Registries and Notaries Law) · Código Civil (Civil Code) · 1961 Hague Apostille Convention
- Widowhood certificates have been among SAREN's digital-mode documents since 2026.
- The data in the system must match the hard-copy document.
We guarantee our service, not what the agency decides. If something depends on them, we tell you clearly and in time.
