Do I have to go to an office?
No. Since August 2026 (SENIAT administrative ruling Providencia SNAT/2026/00080), RIF registration and updates are done exclusively through SENIAT's electronic channels; we handle it for you.
About this procedure
The RIF doesn't expire on a fixed date printed on paper, and that fools a lot of people. The reality is that if you go more than a year without updating it, SENIAT can suspend it, and that's when the trouble starts: you can't invoice properly, a bank turns down a transaction, a client tells you your RIF shows up as not valid in the system, or a procedure you took for granted gets stuck right when you need it most. An outdated RIF is a silent time bomb.
You also have to update it when your details change: you moved, you changed your economic activity, your situation changed. Keeping that information current isn't a SENIAT whim; it's what keeps your RIF working when you present it.
