FAQ
What happens if my attorney-in-fact shows up abroad with a power of attorney that isn't apostilled?
They can't sign, collect or handle anything: for that country, the power of attorney doesn't exist. The apostille is what brings it to life outside Venezuela.
Is the apostille on my power of attorney valid for someone to act for me abroad?
Yes: with the apostille, your power of attorney is valid before authorities and notaries abroad.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $40, covers the full online handling; official fees and shipping are extra.
What is it usually requested for?
So your attorney-in-fact can sign, collect or handle matters on your behalf in another country.
Do I have to go anywhere?
No. Since June 11, 2026, legalization and apostille of SAREN documents are processed 100% online, with no appointment and no consulate.
About this procedure
Did you know you can do this procedure yourself on the SAREN online system? It's absolutely true, and doing it on your own costs less. We're a service company: we don't charge you for access to the system, which is public, but for taking the procedure off your plate. We do it for you, with no mistakes that make you lose your payment, while you carry on at work, at the office or at home. And we send the document wherever you are, in Venezuela or abroad.
A power of attorney you signed before a notary in Venezuela and are going to use abroad needs to be apostilled so the foreign authority will recognize it. That's what gives the notarial document international validity under the Hague Convention, and it's key so someone can act on your behalf from a distance: sell, buy, collect payments, or represent you at a bank or in court. Since June 2026 the procedure is fully digital: SAREN's notarial documents, including powers of attorney, are legalized and apostilled online. There are two steps, legalization (official verification of the signature on the document) and then the apostille, and the system rejects the application if any detail doesn't match the document. We take care of it for you: we check that the power of attorney was properly signed before the notary, file the procedure on the SAREN online system, follow both steps and hand you the finished apostille. That said, if you signed the power of attorney outside Venezuela, it is apostilled in the country where you signed it, by the authority that country designates; SAREN does not apostille it. And if your power of attorney isn't drafted or authenticated yet, we prepare it for you before the apostille, so it goes through without errors.
Legal framework and important notes
Ley de Registros y Notarías (Registries and Notaries Law) · Código Civil (Civil Code) · 1961 Hague Apostille Convention
- Since June 11, 2026, SAREN documents (notarial, civil registry and commercial registry records) are apostilled 100% online through the SAREN online system; there is no longer in-person service for them.
- There are two steps. First the legalization, then the apostille.
- Since it's a 100% online procedure, you don't need to sign anything in person. We do it all for you and send it to you.
- Timing depends on the SAREN system's response, which we don't control, but we manage it so it comes out as fast as possible and we keep you posted.
We guarantee our service, not what the agency decides. If something depends on them, we tell you clearly and in time.
