FAQ
What happens if I handle the municipal audit on my own?
The auditor looks for gaps between what you declared and what your business invoices; without a defense, you end up accepting an assessment with interest and fines that sometimes isn't even warranted.
What does a municipal audit review?
Whether your declared gross income and your classification match reality.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $150, covers support and defense before city hall; any assessment that's warranted is paid separately.
What's a reparo?
City hall's determination of what it says you owe, with interest and fines.
Is it worth handling it with a lawyer?
Yes. The auditor looks for gaps; a defense keeps you from overpaying.
About this procedure
A municipal tax audit is when city hall's tax administration sits down to go over, with a magnifying glass, what your business has declared and paid in municipal business tax (ISAE): whether the gross income you declared matches reality, whether you classified your activity correctly, whether you're up to date. That produces an official record, and if the auditor believes you underpaid, a tax assessment (reparo): city hall's determination of what, in its view, you owe, with interest and fines on top. It's one of the most delicate moments in a company's municipal life.
The catch is that in an audit the auditor isn't on your side: their job is to find discrepancies. Without someone who knows the procedure, who knows what they can and can't demand, who reviews how the assessment was calculated and who defends your position, it's easy for a business to end up accepting inflated amounts or letting deadlines slip that later rule out an appeal. A poorly handled assessment can turn into a burden that chokes the business, when a good part of it was often open to challenge.
We defend you through the process: we review your situation before the visit, organize your supporting documents, attend the audit with you, analyze the record and the assessment, and handle the written defense (descargos) and appeals that apply so you pay what's fair and not a cent more. The price starts at $150 and is adjusted based on how complex the assessment is. A lawyer reviews your situation and confirms everything before we start, no strings attached.
Legal framework and important notes
Constitución de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela (Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela) · Código Orgánico Tributario (Organic Tax Code)
- It's a municipal procedure. Deadlines and rules vary with each city hall's ordinance, and we confirm them when we start.
- It defends you when the municipal tax administration reviews your ISAE. Record, assessment, written defense and appeals.
- Without a defense, you risk accepting inflated amounts or missing the deadlines to appeal.
- Any assessment or tax due and court appeals are separate.
We guarantee our service, not what the agency decides. If something depends on them, we tell you clearly and in time.
