FAQ

What happens if I carry out the works or project without an environmental authorization?

Shutdown, penalties and the obligation to restore conditions: undoing what was done, at your expense.

How is it different from the environmental permit?

It's a specific approval for a particular project, works or impact.

How much does it cost?

The professional fee, from $150, covers preparing and handling the application; the authority's fee is separate, as are technical reports if the authority asks for them.

When does it apply?

When the activity doesn't call for a full study but does need a prior assessment (Decreto 1.257).

What does the timing depend on?

On the environmental authority and the complexity of the project; we confirm it when we assess your case.

About this procedure

Beyond the general environmental permit, some projects and activities require a specific environmental authorization: a one-off approval the law requires before you carry out something that could affect the environment, such as occupying land, affecting natural resources, starting construction works or launching a new activity. Decreto 1.257 (Venezuela's environmental assessment decree) sets up exactly these mechanisms: when an activity doesn't call for a full impact study but does need an assessment, the environmental authority sets the terms and, if appropriate, grants the corresponding authorization.
The costly mistake is assuming that since you're not a big industry you don't need anything, and starting the works or the activity without the authorization that did apply. In environmental matters, acting first and asking for permission later doesn't work: the authority can order a shutdown, impose penalties and require you to restore the environmental conditions, with all the cost and delay that means for a project already underway. Knowing ahead of time which authorization applies is what spares you that blow.
We identify and handle what your project needs: we analyze your activity against environmental regulations, determine which specific authorization it requires, prepare the documents and the notice of intent if applicable, and process it with the environmental authority. The price starts at $150 and is adjusted to the complexity. A lawyer reviews your case and confirms with you before we start, no strings attached.
