FAQ

What happens if I move and don't update the license?

The license is tied to an address: at the new premises you're operating without a license, at risk of fines and closure, even within the same municipality.

What if I move to another municipality?

Then a change of address isn't enough: you close the premises in the old municipality (Business premises closure) and get a new Business license (patente) in the new one; we map out that route and quote it separately.

How much does it cost?

The professional fee, from $110, covers handling the change of address with city hall; the municipal fee is separate.

Do the new premises need zoning compliance?

Yes, and you have to check that your activity is allowed there.

Is it the same as opening a branch?

No. A branch is an additional location; this is moving the existing one.

About this procedure

Moving a business to new premises sounds simple until the municipal side shows up. The business license (patente) is tied to a specific address within the municipality, and when you move, even if it's just next door, that license and all the related paperwork have to be updated with the new address. Otherwise, your license keeps saying you operate somewhere you no longer are, and that's an irregularity city hall can flag in any audit or renewal.
The tricky part is that a change of address isn't just changing one detail: the new premises need their own zoning compliance, you have to check that your activity is allowed in the new zone, and sometimes the tax classification changes depending on the zone. Many people move, invest and operate for months at the new place before realizing the license still points to the old one, piling up an inconsistency that later takes work to straighten out. Making the change in an orderly way, and on time, avoids that mess.
We take care of the municipal side of your move: we check the zoning compliance of the new premises, update your address on the license and paperwork, and handle the change with city hall so you keep operating in good standing. The price starts at $110 and is adjusted based on your municipality. A lawyer reviews your situation and confirms everything before we start, no strings attached.
