About this procedure

A residence letter is the document that proves a person's current address. In Venezuelan practice there are two routes: the residence letter issued by the local consejo comunal, and the one done before a notary through the statements of witnesses who attest that the person lives at a given address. This service covers the notarial route. It's requested all the time: to open or update bank accounts, for RIF (Venezuelan tax ID) procedures, for loan applications, for dealings with public and private institutions, and as a required document within document packages. The notarial letter usually relies on witnesses who state, under the notary's fe pública (the notary's legal power to certify facts and documents), that they know the person and that the person lives at the stated address. The practical detail we save you from: not every institution accepts both routes equally; some specifically ask for the consejo comunal letter and others accept the notarial one without any issue. That's why, before drafting it, we ask what procedure it's for, and if your case accepts the notarial letter, we draft it with the right wording and the witnesses, and have it authenticated at the Notaría Pública (government notary office). If your institution requires the consejo comunal letter, we tell you right away so you don't pay for a document they won't accept.
