FAQ

What happens if the baby doesn't have a certificate of live birth?

The birth can't be registered. Legally, the child doesn't exist: no birth certificate, no cédula (Venezuelan national ID card), no insurance. It's the first document of their life.

What is the certificate of live birth?

It's the medical certificate (Ministry of Health form EV-25) signed by the physician who attended the birth; it's used to declare the birth at the Registro Civil, which issues the birth record.

How much does it cost?

The professional fee, from $35, covers handling with the health center or the office; official fees, if any, are separate.

Can I use it as a birth certificate?

No. It's the step before; with it, we handle the birth registration.

What if the baby was born at home or I wasn't given one?

There's a way to get it; we tell you which one based on your case.

About this procedure

The certificate of live birth is the medical certificate (Ministry of Health form EV-25) signed by the physician who attended the birth at the hospital or health center, and it's the essential requirement to declare the birth: without it, the Registro Civil (Civil Registry: births, marriages, deaths) won't draw up the birth record. Most of the time the health center issues it automatically, but issues come up: home or out-of-hospital births, centers that didn't issue it correctly, or cases where it was lost or a duplicate is needed. That's where we help: we handle or guide you through getting the certificate of live birth for your case, including out-of-hospital births, where the law requires a sworn statement from whoever attended the birth plus additional documents. With that document in hand, you can move on to the birth certificate, a procedure we also handle for you.
