FAQ

What happens if I can't prove I'm widowed?

The survivor's pension, the estate and even a new marriage get delayed. The certificate is the document that proves your status.

What does a widowhood certificate prove?

It certifies that you're a widow or widower for estates, pensions or a new marriage.

How much does it cost?

Professional fees from $30 cover the handling; official registry fees, if any, and the apostille are separate.

Is it valid abroad?

It has to be apostilled; we do that separately.

What do I need?

Your marriage certificate and your spouse's death certificate; if you're missing either one, we get you the certified copy, quoted separately.

About this procedure

A widowhood certificate certifies that a person was widowed, meaning their spouse died and their marital status is therefore widower or widow. It's requested at several sensitive moments: to collect a survivor's pension, for inheritance and estate procedures, and to be able to remarry, because the Registro Civil needs to confirm that you're legally free. It's based on the marriage certificate and the spouse's death certificate, and sometimes people have one but are missing the other, or they're at different offices. We put together the full supporting file: if you're missing either record, we get you the certified copy (quoted separately), handle the widowhood certificate and hand it to you. And if you'll use it abroad, for a pension or a new marriage outside Venezuela, we get it apostilled (Hague Convention certification for use abroad) through the right channel and send it to you.
