FAQ
What happens if the bank asks for the bylaws and I only have a plain copy?
They won't open the account or recognize the board. The certified copy is the official proof that the organization exists and of how it's governed.
What is the certified copy of my association for?
To prove the organization's existence and bylaws to banks and agencies.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $30, covers the full handling; official registry fees, based on the number of pages, and shipping are separate.
Do I have to pick it up myself?
No, we handle it for you.
Can I use it to legalize and apostille?
Yes, it's the base document; we continue with those steps if the organization operates abroad.
About this procedure
A certified copy of an association or foundation document is a faithful reproduction, stamped by the Registry, of the organization's articles of incorporation, bylaws or meeting minutes. It's requested for many things: opening or maintaining bank accounts, proving who represents the organization before third parties, taking part in calls for proposals or funding, complying with the new NGO law that requires documents to be up to date, or getting the document an apostille (Hague Convention certification for use abroad) and using it abroad. Sometimes the organization's own copy got lost, or a recent version stamped by the Registry is needed. We handle it for you: we locate the organization's file at the Registry, request the certified copy of the document you need and hand it to you ready to use. If the next step is apostilling it or recording a new act, we handle that too. Tell us which organization it is and which document you need.
Legal framework and important notes
Ley de Registros y Notarías (Registries and Notaries Law) · Código Civil (Civil Code) · 1961 Hague Apostille Convention
- A certified copy carries the same fe pública as the document kept at the Registry and is accepted by banks and agencies.
- If you're going to use it abroad, it's first legalized and then apostilled; we can link both steps in one go.
We guarantee our service, not what the agency decides. If something depends on them, we tell you clearly and in time.
