About this procedure
A certified copy of a court judgment is a faithful reproduction, issued by the court, of a judicial decision, usually with its enforcement order, which certifies that the judgment has become final and binding. You need it to record the judgment at the Registry, to get it an apostille (Hague Convention certification for use abroad) and use it abroad, or simply to prove in other procedures what a court decided: a divorce, an adoption, an interdiction, a division of property. Getting it usually means going to the court where the case was heard, reviewing the case file and waiting for it to be certified, which is a hassle if you no longer live nearby or the case is old. We handle it for you: we locate the case file, request the certified copy with its enforcement order and hand it to you ready for whatever use you need. If the next step is recording or apostilling it, we handle that too. Tell us which judgment it is and which court issued it.
Legal framework and important notes
Ley de Registros y Notarías (Registries and Notaries Law) · Código Civil (Civil Code) · 1961 Hague Apostille Convention
- The judgment must be final and binding; that's why we request it with its enforcement order, which is what's required to record or legalize it.
- The copy is issued by the court where the case was heard; if the case is old or you no longer live nearby, we locate the case file for you.
We guarantee our service, not what the agency decides. If something depends on them, we tell you clearly and in time.
