FAQ

What happens if I get paid in foreign currency and don't file the IGTF?

You build up a tax debt that SENIAT detects by cross-checking your transactions, with fines and interest. It's the tax many people don't know they owe.

What does the IGTF apply to?

Certain financial transactions, especially payments in foreign currency or in cash other than bolívars.

How much does it cost?

The professional fee, from $45, covers one return; for special taxpayers on the twice-monthly schedule, the monthly package is the better deal.

How often and where is it filed?

For special taxpayers, twice a month, like IVA; it's filed in a separate module within the SENIAT portal.

Is the package worth it?

If it's recurring, yes: Monthly accounting works out better.

About this procedure

The IGTF, the tax on large financial transactions, has become one of the most confusing taxes and one of the fastest to trigger penalties, because many businesses don't even know they're incurring it. It applies to certain financial transactions, and especially to payments made in foreign currency or in cash other than bolívars, something more and more common in day-to-day Venezuelan business.
For special taxpayers (larger taxpayers designated by SENIAT), the IGTF follows the same twice-monthly schedule as IVA, but since its reform it's filed and remitted in a separate module within the SENIAT portal, and that technical detail is where many people get tangled up and end up missing the deadline. As a collection agent, if you get paid in foreign currency and don't collect and remit the IGTF that applies, the liability falls on your business, with the fines of the Código Orgánico Tributario (Organic Tax Code) on top.
We take care of identifying your taxable transactions, calculating the IGTF, and filing and remitting it on time in the right module of the portal. The price starts at $45 per period and goes up with the volume of foreign currency transactions you handle. And if you'd rather stop worrying about it altogether, this is built into Monthly accounting. An accountant reviews your case and gives you the exact figure before we start, no strings attached.
