FAQ
What happens if I'm entitled to the nationality and don't declare it?
The right stays on paper and you can't get a Venezuelan cédula or passport; you're left in identity limbo. The declaration formalizes your nationality.
What does this procedure declare?
Your intent to be Venezuelan, when the law gives you the right to opt for the nationality, for example as a child of Venezuelans born abroad.
How much does it cost?
Professional fees from $55 cover preparing the file and the handling; official registry fees, if any, are separate.
Does this get me my cédula?
Not directly; it puts your nationality in order so you can then apply for it at SAIME.
What does the timing depend on?
On your case and the documents available; we confirm it when we assess your case.
About this procedure
Some people are entitled to Venezuelan nationality but need to declare it formally for it to take effect: children of Venezuelans born abroad who want to opt for it, foreigners married to Venezuelans who meet the time required by law, and other cases set out in the Constitution and the Ley de Nacionalidad y Ciudadanía (Nationality and Citizenship Law). Having the right isn't enough; you have to state your intent before the right authority and have it properly recorded. Each case has its own legal basis and requirements, and choosing the wrong route delays everything. We assess your situation, determine which case you qualify under, prepare the declaration of intent with its legal basis and file it with the Registro Civil so your nationality is formalized and recorded. With that in order, you can move on to your Venezuelan cédula (national ID card) and passport at SAIME (Venezuela's immigration and ID agency).
