FAQ
What happens if the union ended and I don't dissolve it at the registry?
In the eyes of the law, you're still together: your ex-partner keeps rights over your property and you over theirs, and you can't register a new union.
How is a de facto union dissolved?
Through a filing at the Registro Civil that cancels the registered union; we handle it.
How much does it cost?
Professional fees from $55 cover handling the dissolution; official registry fees, if any, are separate.
Do we both have to go?
If it's by mutual agreement, yes; if one of you doesn't agree, the route changes and we guide you.
Is it valid abroad?
It has to be apostilled; we do that separately.
About this procedure
Just as a de facto union is registered, it also has to be legally dissolved when the relationship ends, especially if it was registered. Not doing so leaves the property tie open: assets stay jointly owned, and future inheritance or property claims can come up. Formally dissolving it closes that chapter and protects you both going forward. Depending on the case, the dissolution can go through the administrative route at the Registro Civil when there's agreement, or through the courts when there's a dispute, and you need to be clear on which one applies. We assess your situation, tell you the right route, prepare the request, handle the procedure and coordinate the division of shared property if applicable. We guide you clearly so you can close this chapter in order, with no loose ends.
