FAQ

What happens if I don't get the divorce note entered?

On paper, you're still married: you can't remarry or freely dispose of your property, even if you have the ruling. The marginal note is what completes the divorce.

Will this show my marriage record as divorced?

Yes: we have the divorce marginal note entered so the record reflects your new marital status.

How much does it cost?

Professional fees from $45 cover handling the marginal note; official registry fees, if any, are separate.

Why isn't the divorce ruling enough?

Because until the marginal note is entered, on paper you still show up as married.

What do I need?

The certified copy of the final ruling; if you don't have it, we get it for you.

About this procedure

Many Venezuelans get divorced, receive their final court ruling, and think that's the end of it. But there's a step almost nobody knows is missing: until the divorce marginal note is entered on your marriage record, the Registro Civil still has you as legally married. That means that if you're going to remarry, sell an asset, go through an immigration procedure or handle anything else where your marital status is checked, it'll show that you're married, and everything gets stuck. The marginal note is the official annotation in the margin of the record that states the divorce and updates your marital status for everyone. We make sure the final divorce ruling is recorded and the marginal note is entered on your marriage record at the right Registro Civil office, and we hand you the updated record. We close the step the court doesn't close, so that on paper you're finally what you already are in real life: divorced.
