About this procedure
The environmental impact study (EIA) is the in-depth assessment within Venezuela's environmental system: the technical analysis the law requires of projects that could cause significant environmental impacts, before the authority decides whether to approve them. We're talking about industrial developments, major works and projects that transform their surroundings; for them, a routine authorization isn't enough. You have to study and show how the project will affect the environment and how those impacts will be prevented, mitigated and offset. It's the most decisive environmental requirement there is: without an approved EIA, a project of that scale simply doesn't get off the ground.
