About this procedure
RUPDAE is the Registro Único de Personas que Desarrollan Actividades Económicas (Single Registry of Persons Engaged in Economic Activities), and it's mandatory for anyone who produces, imports, distributes or sells goods or provides services in Venezuela, whether an individual or a legal entity, including those who sell online. It's run by SUNDDE, the fair prices superintendency, and its legal basis is in articles 18, 19 and 20 of the Ley Orgánica de Precios Justos (Organic Fair Prices Law). Put plainly: if you have a store or a company, or you sell on a regular basis, the law requires you to be registered.
The point many people underestimate is that this registry is one of the ones checked on the street. SUNDDE sends out inspectors who verify, among other things, that businesses are registered and follow the pricing rules. Getting caught without RUPDAE in an inspection exposes you to penalties on exactly the front where you least want trouble: the one that directly affects your day-to-day operation and your right to keep selling.
