FAQ
What happens if my relative died abroad and I don't record the certificate here?
In Venezuela, they're still alive: you can't open the estate for their assets here or collect Venezuelan pensions or insurance.
How do I make a death abroad count here?
We record the foreign certificate in the Venezuelan Registro Civil so it takes legal effect.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $55, covers reviewing the certificate and handling the recording; official registry fees and the translation, if needed, are extra.
Is having the foreign certificate enough?
No. It must come apostilled or legalized and translated; we coordinate that.
What does the timing depend on?
On the country of origin and on whether the certificate already comes apostilled and translated; we confirm it when we review your case.
About this procedure
When a Venezuelan, or a relative whose assets or heirs are in Venezuela, dies abroad, the foreign death certificate has to be recorded in the Venezuelan Registro Civil (Civil Registry: births, marriages, deaths) before you can open the estate here, collect insurance, close accounts or handle any other procedure in Venezuela. Without that step, the death has no legal effect here, and the family can't move forward with the inheritance or anything else. We know this is a painful time, and we treat it with the care it deserves. The foreign certificate must come with an apostille (Hague Convention certification for use abroad) or a legalization (official verification of a signature or document), and be translated by an intérprete público (sworn translator authorized in Venezuela) if it's in another language. We handle the whole process remotely so the family doesn't have to deal with international paperwork while grieving: apostille, translation and recording at the Registro Civil. And once the recording is done, we take you straight into the estate procedure, which we also handle.
