FAQ

What happens if I got married abroad and don't record the certificate here?

In Venezuela you're still single: your spouse doesn't inherit, has no rights over your assets here and can't handle procedures as your partner.

How do I register a marriage performed abroad in Venezuela?

We record the foreign certificate in the Registro Civil so it takes effect here.

How much does it cost?

The professional fee, from $55, covers the review and handling of the recording; official registry fees and the translation, if needed, are extra.

Is having the foreign certificate enough?

No. It must come apostilled or legalized and translated; we coordinate that.

What does the timing depend on?

On the country of origin and the status of the certificate; we confirm it when we review your case.

About this procedure

If you got married abroad, your marriage legally exists there, but in Venezuela it has no legal effect until you record the foreign marriage certificate in the Registro Civil (Civil Registry: births, marriages, deaths). And those effects matter a lot: the couple's property regime, inheritance, insurance, benefits and any procedure where you have to prove you're married here. The law even requires a foreigner who takes up residence in Venezuela to submit their marriage certificate within the first fifteen days. Like any certificate from abroad, it must come with an apostille (Hague Convention certification for use abroad) or a legalization (official verification of a signature or document), and be translated by an intérprete público (sworn translator authorized in Venezuela) if it's in another language. We take care of everything: we guide you so you bring a valid certificate, handle the apostille and translation if needed, and record it at the Venezuelan Registro Civil. That way, your marriage abroad is fully recognized in Venezuela.
