FAQ
What happens if the child arrives at the border with an authorization that isn't legalized?
They can be turned back or held at immigration. Within Venezuela the notarized one is enough; to leave and enter another country, they ask for it legalized and apostilled.
Why legalize the travel authorization?
So it's valid at the border and with the authorities of the destination country.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $25, covers the legalization at the Registro Principal; official registry fees are separate, and the apostille is added depending on the destination.
Do I need it apostilled?
Only if you use it outside Venezuela; we guide you.
Do you draft the authorization?
Here we legalize one that's already notarized; drafting and signing it is a separate notary service.
About this procedure
The travel authorization for minors is the permission, granted by the parents, for a child or teenager to travel alone, with a third party or with only one parent. Under the child protection law, no written permission is needed when both parents are present, but in every other case it's required, and when the trip is abroad you'll almost always be asked for it legalized and apostilled. We handle the legalization of the authorization at the Registro Principal or through the online system of SAREN (Venezuela's registries and notaries service), and we process the apostille if the child is traveling abroad. Watch the timing: it's best to legalize it well ahead of the trip. If the parents disagree, that isn't settled at a government window but before the child protection court; we guide you.
Legal framework and important notes
Ley de Registros y Notarías (Registries and Notaries Law) · Código Civil (Civil Code) · 1961 Hague Apostille Convention
- The best interests of the child always come first.
- Contested matters are decided by the child protection court; here we legalize the resulting document.
- If the details don't match the system, the procedure is rejected.
We guarantee our service, not what the agency decides. If something depends on them, we tell you clearly and in time.
