FAQ
What happens if I present a Venezuelan judgment abroad without legalizing it?
To the other country, it's a piece of paper with no authority. Legalization and the apostille are what give your court's decision force outside Venezuela.
Which court documents are legalized?
Judgments, orders and decisions that are already final and that you need to rely on abroad.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $35, covers the legalization at the Registro Principal; official registry fees are separate, and the apostille is added if it's going abroad.
Does the decision have to be final?
Yes, generally final and unappealable; we check it for you.
What if it was issued in another country?
That requires an exequatur (court recognition of a foreign judgment), not a legalization; we'll guide you.
About this procedure
This service covers the legalization of any document issued by a court that doesn't have its own listing in our catalog (such as divorce, adoption or interdiction rulings): orders, resolutions, certificates, certified copies of case files, precautionary measures and the like. For a court document to be valid outside the court that issued it, it needs legalization by the Registro Principal. We review your document, handle the legalization at the Registro Principal or through the digital system of SAREN (Venezuela's registries and notaries service), and hand it to you ready to use. If you'll use it abroad, this legalization is the step before the apostille (Hague Convention certification for use abroad), which we also process. Tell us what document you have and what you need it for, and we'll confirm whether this is the right service or whether there's a more specific one for your case.
Legal framework and important notes
Ley de Registros y Notarías (Registries and Notaries Law) · Código Civil (Civil Code) · Código de Procedimiento Civil (Code of Civil Procedure) · 1961 Hague Apostille Convention
- The document must be final when its nature requires it.
- If the data doesn't match the system, the application is rejected.
We guarantee our service, not what the agency decides. If something depends on them, we tell you clearly and in time.
