FAQ

What happens if I make decisions for my child without the legalized ruling?

You'll be asked for the signature of the other parent, even though the ruling already excluded them. Once legalized, the ruling speaks for you in every procedure.

Why legalize a sole parental authority ruling?

To prove that you alone represent your child in procedures that require it.

How much does it cost?

The professional fee, from $40, covers the legalization at the Registro Principal; official registry fees are separate, and the apostille is added if it's going abroad.

Do I need it apostilled?

Only if you'll use it outside Venezuela; we'll guide you.

Does the ruling have to be final?

Yes, final and unappealable; we check it for you beforehand.

About this procedure

Sole exercise of parental authority allows just one parent to make the important decisions about a child when the other parent is absent, has been stripped of it, or a court decision applies. It's decided by the child protection court where the child lives. You need it legalized so that parent can handle the child's passport, travel out of the country, school enrollment, health matters or an international move alone. Outside the court that issued it, it requires legalization by the Registro Principal. We handle that legalization of the ruling you already obtained, at the Registro Principal or through the digital system of SAREN (Venezuela's registries and notaries service), and if you need it abroad, we process the apostille (Hague Convention certification for use abroad). If you're still in the lawsuit to obtain it, we handle that proceeding as a separate service.
