FAQ

What happens if I have the exequatur and don't legalize it?

The foreign judgment, already recognized, stays in the case file. Banks, registries and other agencies won't apply it until they see the legalized exequatur.

What does legalizing an exequatur mean?

Getting the foreign decision, already recognized in Venezuela, ready to take effect wherever you need it.

How much does it cost?

The professional fee, from $45, covers the legalization at the Registro Principal; official registry fees are separate, and the apostille is added depending on the destination.

Do I need it apostilled?

It depends on the destination; we'll guide you based on the country.

Do you handle the exequatur itself?

Here we legalize one you already obtained; the exequatur proceeding before the TSJ or the Tribunal Superior is a separate service.

About this procedure

An exequatur is the decision that recognizes in Venezuela a judgment issued by a foreign court, making it enforceable; it's granted by the TSJ (Supreme Court of Justice) in contested cases, or by a Tribunal Superior (higher court) in uncontested ones. Once you have the exequatur, to rely on it before registries, banks or agencies it usually requires legalization by the Registro Principal. Here we handle the legalization of the exequatur you already obtained and hand it to you ready to use, and if you need it abroad, we process the apostille (Hague Convention certification for use abroad). Note: if you DON'T have the exequatur yet and what you need is to obtain it, that's a proceeding before the TSJ or the Tribunal Superior that we also handle as a separate service; ask us and we'll help you see where you stand.
