FAQ

What happens if my attorney-in-fact presents the power of attorney abroad without legalizing it?

They can't act: no foreign authority accepts a Venezuelan power of attorney that hasn't been legalized and apostilled.

Do you prepare the power of attorney?

Here we legalize one that's already been granted; if you need it drafted and signed, that's a separate notary service.

How much does it cost?

The professional fee, from $30, covers legalization at the Registro Principal and the apostille; official fees are separate.

Why is the power of attorney legalized?

So your attorney-in-fact can act for you before authorities abroad.

Do I need the original?

Yes, in good condition.

About this procedure

A power of attorney is the document you use to authorize another person to act on your behalf. Once it's granted before the Notaría Pública (government notary office), to be valid outside the country or before certain agencies it usually needs legalization by the Registro Principal and then an apostille. We start from your already-notarized power of attorney: we check that it was properly granted, handle its legalization at the Registro Principal or through the online system of SAREN (Venezuela's registries and notaries service), and if you'll use it abroad we process the apostille at the MPPRE (Venezuela's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which issues apostilles). With that, your attorney-in-fact can act for you before banks, registries, consulates or agencies in another country. If you don't have the power of attorney drafted and signed yet, that's a notary service we also offer; tell us where you are in the process and we'll guide you.
