FAQ
What happens if I acknowledged my child and the document isn't legalized?
Abroad, or before certain agencies, the relationship isn't proven: pensions, nationality and inheritance get stuck. Once legalized, the acknowledgment is valid wherever you present it.
Why legalize a child acknowledgment?
To make the parent-child relationship count before authorities, especially abroad.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $30, covers legalization at the Registro Principal; official fees are separate, and the apostille is added if it's going abroad.
Do I need it apostilled?
Only if you'll use it outside Venezuela; we'll guide you.
Do you do the acknowledgment itself?
Here we legalize one that's already been made; making it is a separate procedure at the Registro Civil (Civil Registry: births, marriages, deaths).
About this procedure
Acknowledging a child legally establishes parentage between a father or mother and their child. It's a voluntary act that, under the child protection law, can't be made conditional on the mother's consent or a DNA test. Once it's done, for it to take full effect outside the office that recorded it, it usually needs legalization by the Registro Principal: to update the birth record, get the child's cédula (Venezuelan national ID card) or passport, change the surname or use it abroad. We handle that legalization at the Registro Principal or through the online system of SAREN (Venezuela's registries and notaries service) and hand it to you ready, and if you need it abroad we process the apostille. If what you're facing is a disagreement or a refusal to acknowledge the child, that's no longer a voluntary acknowledgment but a paternity suit (inquisición de paternidad), which we handle as a separate service.
Legal framework and important notes
Ley de Registros y Notarías (Registries and Notaries Law) · Código Civil (Civil Code) · 1961 Hague Apostille Convention
- The best interests of the child always come first.
- If there's a disagreement or a refusal to acknowledge, the child protection court decides; here we legalize the voluntary acknowledgment.
- If the data doesn't match the system, the procedure is rejected.
We guarantee our service, not what the agency decides. If something depends on them, we tell you clearly and in time.
