FAQ

What happens if I try to remarry or handle procedures abroad with the divorce not legalized?

As far as they're concerned, you're still married. The legalized and apostilled decree is what proves the marriage ended.

Can I use it to remarry?

Yes, it proves the marriage has been dissolved.

How much does it cost?

The professional fee, from $35, covers legalization at the Registro Principal; official fees are separate, and the apostille is added if it's going abroad.

What if I got divorced in another country?

That requires an exequatur, not a legalization; we'll guide you.

Do I need it apostilled?

Only if you'll use it outside Venezuela.

About this procedure

A divorce decree issued by a Venezuelan court needs to be legalized by the Registro Principal to be fully valid outside the court that issued it: to remarry, divide property, update your marital status or present it in another country. We check that your decree is final, non-appealable and enforceable, handle its legalization at the Registro Principal or through the online system of SAREN (Venezuela's registries and notaries service), and hand it to you ready. If you'll use it abroad, this legalization is the step before the apostille, which we also handle. Important: if your divorce was granted by a court in another country and you want it recognized in Venezuela, that's not a legalization but an exequatur (court recognition of a foreign judgment), a separate court procedure we also handle; ask us and we'll tell you which one fits your case.
