FAQ
What happens if the record was annulled and the note isn't entered?
The flawed record still shows up as valid in the system, and any office can issue copies of it as if nothing happened. The marginal note deactivates it.
Does this annul the record or just annotate it?
We get the marginal note entered for an annulment that has already been decreed; the underlying proceeding that declared it is separate.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $45, covers handling the marginal note; official fees, if any, are separate.
Why is the annulment note necessary?
Because without it, the flawed record still shows up as valid.
What do I need?
The certified copy of the decision that declared the annulment, with its enforcement order.
About this procedure
When a record is declared null, for example a double birth certificate, a fraudulent record or one drawn up without meeting the requirements, that decision has to be reflected in a marginal note (annotation added to a recorded document) so it officially shows that the record is void. Getting the annulment declared isn't enough: if the annotation isn't entered, the flawed record still shows up as valid in the system and the identity issue goes on. The annulment marginal note is what finally closes that chapter, making clear which record was annulled and, when applicable, which one stays in force. It's the step that puts the person's identity in order for good. We make sure the annulment already declared is properly entered as a marginal note at the Registro Civil, and we coordinate so the correct record stands as the valid one. We finish untangling the knot so your documents say, without ambiguity, who you are.
