FAQ
What happens if I renounced my nationality and don't recover it?
You're a foreigner in your own country. No cédula, no Venezuelan passport, no rights as a national. Recovery gives you all of that back.
Can I recover the Venezuelan nationality I renounced?
Yes. We handle the recovery and its recording at the Registro Civil.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $55, covers preparation and handling; official fees, if any, are separate.
Does this get me my cédula?
Not directly. It puts your nationality back in order so you can then apply for the cédula at SAIME.
What does the timing depend on?
On the agency and on how you prove the two years of domicile; we confirm it when we review your case.
About this procedure
Anyone who renounced their Venezuelan nationality by birth has the right to recover it, and this matters to many Venezuelans in the diaspora who renounced it at some point and now, for whatever reason, want to be full Venezuelans again. The Constitution allows it, but with two conditions you must meet, no exceptions: being domiciled in Venezuela for a period of no less than two years, and stating your intention to recover it. Once those requirements are met, the recovery is declared at the Registro Civil and the marginal note (annotation added to a recorded document) is entered on the record, and the person is once again Venezuelan by birth, with access to a cédula (Venezuelan national ID card) and passport. We advise you on how to prove the two years of domicile, prepare the declaration of recovery, handle it at the Registro Civil and coordinate the marginal note. We give you back, on paper, your status as a Venezuelan.
