FAQ
What happens if the court granted the adoption and I don't record it?
The child's birth certificate stays the same. For school, travel and inheritance, you're not their father or mother. Recording it is what makes the bond real.
What does recording the adoption decree do?
It enters the adoption already decreed so the bond becomes official at the Registro Civil.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $45, covers handling the recording; official fees, if any, are separate.
Does the child's birth certificate change?
Yes. It reflects the new bond as decreed.
What do I need?
The certified copy of the decree with its enforcement order; if you don't have it, we can get it for you too.
About this procedure
When a court grants an adoption, the process doesn't end there: that decree has to be recorded at the Registro Civil so a new birth certificate is issued for the child, now with the details of their new family, as if they had been born into it. This step is what makes the adoption fully effective in the world of documents, and until it's done, the child still has their previous birth certificate. It's a beautiful moment for the family, and it deserves to be wrapped up properly. We handle recording the decree at the Registro Civil, make sure the new birth certificate comes out right with the correct names and surnames, and hand it to you. With that new birth certificate in hand, your child is ready for their cédula (Venezuelan national ID card), school and everything else.
