FAQ
What happens if I don't record my degree?
Joining your professional association and practicing formally get stuck, because without recording at the Registro Principal your degree has no fe pública.
Why do I need to record my university degree?
Recording gives it fe pública, and it's usually required to join your professional association and practice formally. For use abroad the route is different, through the GTU and the apostille at the MPPRE, and we handle that too.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $40, covers handling the recording; official fees are separate.
Do I need to be there in person?
No, we handle it for you.
What do I need?
Your original degree in good condition, your university's details and your cédula; if it's for use abroad, tell us the destination country and we'll guide you on the right route.
About this procedure
Recording your university degree at the Registro Principal is the step that gives your diploma fe pública (official legal certainty), and it's usually required to join your professional association, practice formally or move ahead with other procedures. You need to be clear on the route here, because people mix it up: recording the degree at the Registro Principal is one thing, and legalizing it for use abroad is another. For use abroad, academic documents don't go through SAREN (Venezuela's registries and notaries service); they go through the GTU (Gestión de Trámites Universitarios, the Ministry of University Education's online system) and are then apostilled at the MPPRE (Venezuela's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which issues apostilles). If your university is public, there's a prior certification step with the ministry. We point you in the right direction based on what you need: we handle the recording of the degree at the Registro Principal, and if you're emigrating, we take you through the correct academic route with the GTU and the apostille. Tell us what you need it for and we'll map out the path, no runaround.
Legal framework and important notes
Ley de Registros y Notarías (Registries and Notaries Law) · Código Civil (Civil Code) · 1961 Hague Apostille Convention
- The academic route. Legalizing degrees for use abroad goes through the GTU of the Ministry of University Education, not through SAREN; public universities have a prior certification step.
- A certified copy of a recorded degree does go through SAREN's digital channel.
We guarantee our service, not what the agency decides. If something depends on them, we tell you clearly and in time.
