FAQ
What happens if I renounce incorrectly or only halfway?
You end up in limbo: to one country you're still Venezuelan and to the other you're not, and that complicates both citizenships. A formal renunciation closes the process properly.
How is a renunciation of nationality formalized?
Through the act before the authority and its entry in the Civil Registry; we handle it for you.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $55, covers preparation and handling; official fees, if any, are separate.
Does this affect my cédula?
Yes: once the renunciation is recorded, your status with SAIME changes; we guide you on the next step.
Can I renounce if I don't have another nationality?
The law places conditions on that; we assess your case before we start.
About this procedure
Some people need to formally renounce Venezuelan nationality, usually because they're going to acquire or opt for another nationality that doesn't allow dual citizenship, or because a third country requires it. The law allows it, but with a crucial detail many people miss: the renunciation has no legal effect until the corresponding marginal note is entered on the renouncing person's birth certificate. In other words, signing the declaration isn't enough; the registration and the note have to be completed, or legally you're still Venezuelan. It's done at the Registro Civil of the relevant jurisdiction, or at the consulate if you're abroad. We handle the complete process and do it right: we prepare the renunciation declaration, file it with the competent authority and make sure the marginal note that makes it effective is entered, and then we hand you the certificate. A delicate procedure, done with no loose ends.
Legal framework and important notes

- The renunciation is made at the Civil Registry (or a consulate if you're abroad) and does NOT take effect until the marginal note is entered on the birth certificate
