FAQ
What happens if my RIF is outdated or expired?
SENIAT can suspend it, and without a current RIF you can't open an account, issue invoices, sign or do almost any procedure. It's the document that holds everything up when it fails.
Does the RIF expire?
It has no fixed expiration date, but it must be updated; if more than a year goes by, SENIAT can suspend it.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $35, covers getting a new one or updating it; the procedure itself carries no official fee.
Does it work for banks and other procedures?
Yes, it's the first thing you're asked for almost everywhere.
Do I have to go to an office?
No. Since August 2026 (Providencia SNAT/2026/00080, a SENIAT administrative ruling), RIF registration and updates are done exclusively through SENIAT's online channels; we handle it for you.
About this procedure
The RIF (Registro de Información Fiscal) is the tax ID of every person in Venezuela: it's the first thing you're asked for to open a bank account, sign a document at a registry or notary office, bill professional fees, or handle any formal procedure. Without a current RIF, you're simply stuck. And here's the detail almost nobody keeps in mind: the RIF isn't forever. It has to be kept up to date, and if more than a year goes by without an update, SENIAT can suspend it, and then all your procedures fall through until you bring it current.
The procedure is done online on SENIAT's portal, but between system outages, data that has to be entered just right and steps people don't know about, it's one of those simple things that still eats up your morning and ends in an error. We take care of it for you: we gather your details, do the first-time registration or the update depending on your case, and deliver your RIF current and ready to use, with its certificate.
This service covers getting it from scratch as well as updating it or reviving it if it expired. It's the starting point of your whole tax life, and the logical first step if you're also going to file returns, certify income or formalize any activity. A small procedure that, handled badly, holds up everything big.
