FAQ

What happens if I show up in court with just screenshots?

The other side challenges them in a minute, since any app can edit a screenshot. The notarial record is what turns a chat into evidence backed by fe pública.

Does the notary guarantee the message is true?

The notary attests to what appears on the device, not to the substance of the matter.

How much does it cost?

The professional fee, from $70, covers preparing the record and the notary step; the official fee depends on the number of pages, and we give you the exact figure before we start.

Can it be used in court?

Yes, that's its most common use.

Can you certify messages I already deleted?

No; this verifies what's visible on the device. Recovering deleted content is forensic analysis, a separate specialty.

About this procedure

A screenshot on its own can be denied by the other side: they'll say it was edited or taken out of context. Notarial certification solves that. The notary, in your presence, reviews the content directly on the device, whether it's a phone, a computer or wherever it is, and makes an authentic record of what they see: who is writing, what it says, the date and time the conversation shows, the page's address. With that, the digital content is backed by fe pública (the notary's legal power to certify facts and documents) and can be used as evidence before a court or any authority. It's used more and more: threats or harassment by messaging, agreements broken over chat, defamatory posts, deals closed by email, evidence for a labor or family case. We organize the content you want certified, prepare the record so the notary verifies what matters, schedule the appointment at the notary office and go with you. The notary attests to what appears; they don't confirm whether the underlying facts are true, only that the content exists and appears that way.
