Declaration of intent
Formally record, before a notary, a decision, intention or purpose of your own: an act of your will alone, without needing to agree on anything with anyone else. The key is drafting it with just the right precision.

FAQ
What happens if I leave my decision as just a verbal statement?
No one can later prove what you wanted or when you decided it. Before a notary, your will has fecha cierta and is beyond dispute.
How is it different from a sworn statement?
A sworn statement affirms a fact under oath for a procedure; a declaration of intent expresses a decision or intention of yours.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $40, covers the drafting and handling at the notary; the official fee is separate.
Do I need another person?
No, your will alone is enough.
Does it have fecha cierta?
Yes, that's one of its strengths. You go in person, with your valid cédula.
About this procedure
A declaration of intent is the document through which a person formally expresses, before a notary, a decision, intention or purpose that depends solely on their own will, without needing another party's agreement. Unlike a contract, which arises from the meeting of two wills, here yours is enough. It's used in very different situations: recording a decision you want documented and with fecha cierta (a legally certain date, so the document holds up against third parties), expressing the intention to do or not do something, stating your position on a matter, or formalizing a purpose you may later want to prove you adopted at a given moment. Its value lies precisely in the fecha cierta and in the notary's certification that it was you who appeared and made the declaration. The delicate part is the drafting: an ambiguous declaration of intent can end up saying more, or less, than you meant, or be read as a commitment you never intended to take on. That's why we draft it with legal precision, clearly defining what you decide and what you don't, and get it authenticated. If what you need is specifically to swear to a fact for a procedure, what you want is the Sworn statement; if it's to authorize someone to act on your behalf, see our powers of attorney or authorizations.
Legal framework and important notes
Ley de Registros y Notarías (Registries and Notaries Law) · Código Civil (Civil Code)
- A poorly drafted declaration of intent can be read as a commitment you didn't want to take on
- Precision is everything. That's why we carefully define what you decide and what's expressly left out
We guarantee our service, not what the agency decides. If something depends on them, we tell you clearly and in time.
