FAQ

What happens if I operate without a health permit?

Fines, seizure and closure of the premises, and without it city hall won't issue your business license (patente) either. For a food business, it's the permit that decides whether you open.

Is the permit for the premises or for the product?

For the ESTABLISHMENT; for products, it's the product health registration.

How much does it cost?

The professional fee, from $110, covers the full handling with SACS through SIACVISA; the SACS fee is separate.

Who issues it?

SACS (Contraloría Sanitaria), through SIACVISA.

What do I need?

RIF, Registro Mercantil record or articles of incorporation, the premises document, staff certificates and premises in proper condition; we give you the list.

About this procedure

The health permit is the authorization through which SACS, the Contraloría Sanitaria, certifies that your establishment meets the standards of the Ley Orgánica de Salud (Organic Health Law) and the Reglamento General de Alimentos (General Food Regulations) to operate. It's essential to understand what it covers: the health permit belongs to the ESTABLISHMENT, the premises themselves, not to the products you sell. The health authority must grant it to every food establishment, public or private, before it starts operating, and city hall requires it as a document to issue your business license (patente). In a food business, without a health permit you simply don't open.
And it isn't a one-time paper you can forget about: the health authority inspects, and if they catch you operating without a permit, with an expired permit or with conditions that don't meet the standards, things get serious: fines, seizure of goods and, in the worst case, closure of the premises. For a restaurant, a bakery or a bodegón (specialty grocery store), a health closure isn't just losing the days you're shut; it's the hit to your reputation when word gets around. That's why it pays to have this front locked down from the start.
We get it done right: we identify the exact type of permit that matches your activity (filing the wrong type is the most common cause of delays), gather the required documents, including your employees' health certificates and courses, and handle the permit with SACS through SIACVISA, the SACS online system. The price starts at $110 and is adjusted to your case. A lawyer reviews your situation and confirms it with you before we start, no strings attached.
