FAQ

What happens if the adoption was granted and I don't record the ruling?

Until it's recorded, the adoption has no effect against third parties: your child's birth record stays the same, and no one recognizes you as the father or mother.

Why record the adoption ruling?

So it's binding on everyone and shows on the child's birth record.

How much does it cost?

The professional fee, from $40, covers handling the recording; official registry fees are separate.

Does the ruling have to be final?

Yes, with its enforcement order; we check it for you beforehand.

What do I need?

The certified copy of the ruling with its enforcement order; if you don't have it, we can get it for you too.

About this procedure

When a court issues the adoption ruling, the process doesn't end there: for the adoption to take full effect against everyone and be reflected in the child's civil status, the ruling must be recorded at the Registry and the corresponding note added to the birth record. That registry step is what turns the judge's decision into something enforceable against third parties, and it's essential for getting a new birth certificate, cédula (Venezuelan national ID card), passport, inheritance or any other procedure for the adopted child. We start from your ruling and its final enforcement order: we check that it's final, handle the recording at the right Registry and follow up on the marginal note (annotation added to a recorded document). We stay with you until the adoption is properly recorded. If you also need your child's new ID document or need us to handle the adoption case in court, we take care of those services too.
