Sale of movable property
It's the purchase and sale document for movable property other than vehicles: machinery, equipment, furniture, inventory, merchandise or a business's fixtures and fittings. It's authenticated before the notary, who attests that the signatures are genuine. Unlike a vehicle sale, it doesn't need to be recorded at a registry.

FAQ
What happens if I sell machinery or equipment without a document?
Without proof of the sale, a third party can claim the asset or deny that you bought it, and you have nothing to defend yourself with. The notarially authenticated document gives you fecha cierta and backing.
What goods can I sell this way?
Almost any movable property that isn't a vehicle or real estate: machinery, equipment, furniture, inventory, merchandise.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $60, covers drafting and authentication; the official notary fee is separate. With the authentication it's formalized, with no later recording.
And if I sell on credit?
It can be agreed with retention of title.
Do you have a rate for companies?
Yes, a partner rate, based on your volume.
About this procedure
A sale of movable property is the tool for formalizing the transfer of almost any asset that isn't a vehicle or real estate: industrial machinery, equipment, office furniture, inventory, merchandise, tools, or even all the fixtures and fittings of a running business. The document puts in writing what's being sold, with its description and features, the price and the conditions, and the notary authenticates that the buyer's and seller's signatures are genuine. Unlike a car, there's no later recording at another agency: with the notarial authentication, the sale is formalized and has fecha cierta (a legally certain date, so the document holds up against third parties). It's especially useful for companies and entrepreneurs that buy or sell assets, for anyone selling their business with everything in it, or for properly documenting a significant deal between private individuals. If the sale is on credit, it can be agreed with retention of title (reserva de dominio), so you keep ownership until you're paid. With a business advisor's know-how, we draft the document with the level of detail needed so there are no loose ends. And if you're a company that buys or sells assets often, or you're in the asset liquidation business, we have a preferred partner rate: tell us your volume and we'll work it out.
Legal framework and important notes
Ley de Registros y Notarías (Registries and Notaries Law) · Código Civil (Civil Code)
- The key to a good sale of movable property is in the details. The better the goods are described, the fewer disputes later; that's why we ask for features and serial numbers when they exist
- Remember that buyer and seller sign in person before the notary
- And if your company moves assets often, don't pay for each deal as a one-off. Ask about the partner rate
We guarantee our service, not what the agency decides. If something depends on them, we tell you clearly and in time.
