Boat sale
It's the purchase and sale document that transfers ownership of a vessel, motorboat, yacht, sailboat or boat, authenticated before the notary, who attests to the signatures. With that document, you then go to the INEA's naval registry for the registration and the navigation license.

What it costs and how to pay
There are two separate payments, and we want you to see them clearly.
Our fee: we do all the work for you.
The official notary fee. It goes straight to the agency, and we give you the exact amount, with its receipt, before you pay anything.
How you pay: You pay once, when we start. In dollars, in bolívares at the official BCV exchange rate, or with Cashea.
How is your investment calculated?
Your investment has two parts, and we give you each one separately. Our base professional fee, from $75, to draft the document and handle its authentication; if you're a marine broker or marina, our preferred partner rate applies, which we set based on your volume
The notary office's official notary fee and, later on, the INEA's naval registry fees for the registration. Official amounts are paid in bolívares Your lawyer gives you the exact figure before you pay anything, no strings attached.
FAQ
What happens if I buy a motorboat with just a receipt?
Without the notarized document and its registration, the boat isn't in your name and you can't legally operate it or resell it. A receipt doesn't make you the owner in the eyes of the authorities.
Is the notary enough, or do I have to register it?
A boat needs both steps, like real estate: the notary office authenticates and gives fecha cierta (a legally certain date, so the document holds up against third parties), and the INEA harbor master's office is what makes you the owner in the eyes of the authorities. We do both.
How much does it cost?
The professional fee, from $75, covers drafting and authentication; the official notary fee and the INEA registration are separate.
What details do I need, and who signs?
Length, hull, engines and registration if it has one. Both buyer and seller sign, in person and with their cédula.
Do you have a rate for brokers and marinas?
Yes, a partner rate.
About this procedure
Selling a boat works much like selling a vehicle, but with its own nautical world. First, the purchase and sale document is drafted and authenticated before the notary, stating who sells, who buys, the boat's details, length, hull type, hull identification number, engines, and the price and conditions; the notary attests that the signatures are genuine. With that notarized document in hand, the next step is to go to the relevant harbor master's office, where the INEA's Venezuelan Naval Registry (Registro Naval Venezolano) operates, to record the transfer, pay the fees, have the boat inspected and obtain or update the navigation license (patente) in the new owner's name. An important point: you don't need to go through the naval registry first in order to notarize; you notarize first and register afterward. With nautical know-how, we speak your language: we know about registrations, lengths, navigation licenses and the paperwork the harbor master's office asks for, and we draft the document so it doesn't get bounced back. And there's a natural partner here: marine brokers, marinas and anyone who sells boats often get our preferred partner rate; tell us your volume and we'll set up an agreement. Buyer and seller sign in person before the notary.
Legal framework and important notes
Ley de Registros y Notarías (Registries and Notaries Law) · Código Civil (Civil Code)
- Order matters. First the sale is notarized and then it's registered at the INEA harbor master's office, not the other way around
- Have the exact nautical details on hand, length, hull number and engines, because one detail copied wrong gets the registration bounced back
- Buyer and seller sign in person
- And if you work in the nautical world, ask about the partner rate
We guarantee our service, not what the agency decides. If something depends on them, we tell you clearly and in time.
